Clean Wounds

The idea
A clean wound is uninfected, shows no inflammation, and does not enter the respiratory, digestive, genital or urinary tracts.
In practice
Clean wounds are usually closed primarily and, if drained, closed drainage is used; a planned hernia repair is a typical example.
Where people slip
Clean is the lowest-risk class, but a break in technique can still introduce infection.
