Anticipating Major Blood Loss
Captions available
The idea
Before surgery, the team discusses whether a case carries a risk of major blood loss, so preparations are made in advance.
In practice
If the risk is significant, adequate intravenous access and fluids or blood for resuscitation are arranged before incision.
Where people slip
A case with a known bleeding risk calls for extra sponges, suction and hemostatic supplies on the field from the start.
