Hand Hygiene Comes First
Captions available
The idea
Hand hygiene is the single most important practice for preventing the spread of infection in health care.
In practice
An alcohol-based rub is preferred unless hands are visibly soiled or the patient has Clostridioides difficile; then soap and water are used.
Where people slip
Gloves do not replace hand hygiene; hands are cleaned before gloving and again after gloves come off.
