The idea
Chemical indicators are grouped into five classes according to how many sterilization conditions they monitor.
In practice
Simpler indicators respond to one condition, such as temperature; more advanced ones respond to several, such as time, temperature and saturated steam together.
Where people slip
The facility chooses the indicator types; the scrub person's job is to read the one in front of them every time.
