The idea
Mechanical monitors are the sterilizer's own records of time, temperature and pressure for each cycle.
In practice
For steam, staff review the temperature chart or printout and the pressure gauge every day; ethylene oxide sterilizers have similar recorders.
Where people slip
A printout showing the wrong time or temperature means the load is not released, whatever the indicators show.
