Intragenerational Mobility

Captions available

The idea

Intragenerational mobility is the movement a person makes between social positions across their own working life.

In practice

Someone who begins in one occupation and ends in a differently placed one has moved within a generation.

Where people slip

Intragenerational mobility is usually taught as vertical movement across a career; lateral moves at the same rank are horizontal mobility.
