Government as Agent
Captions available
The idea
Government is an agent of socialization that defines the ages, obligations, and legal categories a person is assigned across life.
In practice
A state fixes when a person may drive, vote, marry, or be tried as an adult.
Where people slip
Government socialization reaches people who neither joined nor consented to the categories it assigns.
