Ethnocentrism is judging another culture by the standards of one's own, treating the familiar as the natural way to live.
In practice
A traveler calling an unfamiliar meal disgusting has rated it against a childhood kitchen, not against anything else.
Where people slip
Ethnocentrism is often invisible to the doer, which makes it hard to correct — but an open version is ethnocentrism all the same.
