The Rock Cycle

Captions available

The idea

The rock cycle begins with magma, molten rock below the surface, or lava, erupted above it; cooling crystallizes minerals into igneous rock. Weathering breaks rock into fragments and erosion removes them; the sediments, gravel to clay, become sedimentary rock. Heat and pressure make metamorphic rock.

In practice

Igneous from ignis, fire.

Where people slip

Minerals are the cycle's units.
