Jamestown and Plymouth: Two Motives
Captions available
The idea
After Roanoke vanished in fifteen eighty-seven, England founded Jamestown in sixteen oh seven and Plymouth in sixteen twenty. The Virginia Company built Jamestown for profit; Puritan Separatists built Plymouth to worship their own way.
In practice
Tobacco in the Chesapeake; congregations in New England.
Where people slip
Both fought native neighbors. King Philip's War of sixteen seventy-five to seventy-six nearly drove the English from New England.
