The idea
The Bolsheviks won a civil war, then argued over principles; Lenin's New Economic Policy allowed some capitalism. After Lenin's death Stalin emerged. His Five-Year Plans centralized the economy and hardened the state; collectivization brought famine and death; suspicion of disloyalty meant prison or execution.
