The idea
Germany's naval ambitions collided with Britain's. Nationalities strained the Ottomans and Austria-Hungary; a Bosnian Serb killed Franz Ferdinand in June nineteen fourteen, and alliance obligations spread the war. Belgium marked Germany the aggressor; the Marne fixed the trenches; Russia bled.
