Social Sciences and History / Unit 11 SSH 1028 short lesson, about 20 seconds
Sacred Space, Pilgrimage, Sanctuary
Captions available
The idea
Sacred spaces are places associated with a sense of the divine; a pilgrimage is a journey to one. A sanctuary is a legal haven. A state religion is a state's official religion, not the same as theocracy, rule by religious principles; secular means separation of state from any religion.
In practice
Agnostic: unknowable; atheistic: nothing supernatural.
Where people slip
State religion against theocracy is the exam's pair.
