Captions available

The idea

Remittances are money international migrants send home, the largest external funding source for many developing countries, six hundred billion dollars worldwide in twenty sixteen by the anchor's figure. Transnationalism is migrants' sustained exchange across borders. A diaspora shares a homeland it no longer lives in.

In practice

Generations later, still identifying with the homeland.

Where people slip

The sum is dated and unconverted.
