The idea
The method of loci encodes an ordered list by placing each item at a distinct location along a familiar route.
In practice
A ten-item list encoded end to end along one remembered walk, item by item, then retrieved in order and in reverse. Includes the two placements that fail because the image is not distinctive enough, and how they are rebuilt.
