The Somatic Nervous System
Captions available
The idea
The somatic nervous system carries sensory information inward and voluntary motor commands to skeletal muscle.
In practice
Deciding to raise a hand and feeling the desk under it both travel by the somatic system.
Where people slip
Voluntary refers to the muscle type, not to conscious deliberation. Most somatic activity is unattended.
