What an Argument Is

The idea
An argument is a set of statements in which some—the premises—are claimed to support another—the conclusion.
In practice
"Rent takes half my income. My income is fixed. So I need a cheaper apartment." Two premises, one conclusion.
Where people slip
In philosophy, an argument is not a quarrel. A calm sentence can hold one; a shouting match can hold none.
