The idea
Indicator words mark an argument's structure: "therefore," "so," and "thus" signal conclusions; "because," "since," and "for" signal premises.
In practice
"The ferry stopped running, so we are staying the night." One premise, one marked conclusion.
Where people slip
Indicators are clues, not guarantees—"since" can mark time rather than reasons, and some arguments carry no indicators at all.
