The principle. Hume pushed empiricism to its working edge: trace every idea to the experience that supplied it, and treat what cannot be traced as suspect. Then he audited the accounts, one by one.
Watch for
Hume demolishes justifications, not practices—he never advises against induction, morals, or government. Read him as auditing the books, not burning the building—the building, by his own account, was never in danger.
