Medical Assistant Prep / Unit 17 MAS 402 short lesson, about 20 seconds
The Nasal Cannula
Captions available
The idea
The nasal cannula is the simplest and most common oxygen device.
In practice
It is oxygen tubing ending in two short prongs that sit in the nostrils, connected to a flow meter on a tank, wall outlet or home concentrator.
Where people slip
Before a patient leaves on portable oxygen, check that the tank has enough oxygen, is turned on, and is set at the ordered flow.
