During suture or staple removal, check the wound after each one, and stop if the edges begin to separate.
In practice
Leave the remaining sutures or staples in place, cover the wound, and notify the provider, who decides what to do next.
Where people slip
Finishing the removal on a wound that is opening can turn a small problem into dehiscence.
