The idea
Pulse force is graded on a short scale, from absent to bounding.
In practice
Zero means absent; one-plus means weak, diminished or thready; two-plus means normal and strong; three-plus means full and bounding.
Where people slip
An absent or weak pulse is reported at once; a device called a Doppler can confirm blood flow.
