Watching Respiration
Captions available
The idea
Respirations are assessed for rate, rhythm and quality.
In practice
Normal breathing is relaxed and quiet with a regular rhythm; loud breathing, flaring nostrils or use of neck muscles to breathe are signs of distress.
Where people slip
Signs of breathing distress are reported to the provider right away, before you finish the rest of the vital signs.
