Medical Assistant Prep / Unit 9 MAS 202 short lesson, about 20 seconds
Cleaning Always Comes First
Captions available
The idea
Thorough cleaning must come before disinfection or sterilization.
In practice
Soil and blood left on an instrument shield germs from the disinfectant or the steam; once dried or baked on, it is harder to remove and the process may fail.
Where people slip
Rinse or presoak instruments soon after use so that blood does not dry on them.
