An Older Term: Reverse Isolation
Captions available
The idea
Reverse isolation is an older term for isolating an immunocompromised patient to protect them from others.
In practice
At least one regional infection-prevention authority calls it outdated, without evidence of benefit for hospitalized immunocompromised patients, and current federal guidance uses the narrower Protective Environment instead.
Where people slip
Follow the practice's current policy, not an older label.
