Aggression in Early Childhood
Captions available
The idea
Aggression is purposeful harm or threatened harm to people or property; in early childhood it is mostly physical, peaking around two or three.
In practice
A three-year-old shoving a playmate to get back a toy, instrumental aggression aimed at a goal.
Where people slip
Hostile aggression aims to hurt; instrumental aggression aims at something else. Physical aggression falls as self-regulation grows.
