Human Growth and Development / Unit 1   HGD 0044 short lesson, about 20 seconds

Observational Learning

Captions available

The idea

Observational learning, described by Albert Bandura, is learning by watching others and the consequences they meet, rather than by one's own reinforcement.

In practice

Children who watched an adult hit a Bobo doll hitting it themselves.

Where people slip

Children who saw the aggressive model also invented new ways to attack the doll. Models can be live or symbolic, as in television.
