The idea
The Neonatal Behavioral Assessment Scale, developed by T. Berry Brazelton, assesses a newborn's behaviour and neurological functioning, usually at three to four days.
In practice
A newborn tested on motor functioning, responses to faces and voices, and shifting between states.
Where people slip
It covers three areas, autonomic and motor functioning, social responsiveness and infant states, and is used to compare infants across cultures.
