Heritability as a Population Statistic
Captions available
The idea
Heritability estimates how much of the variability in a trait within a population genetic differences explain, from near zero to near one hundred percent.
In practice
Estimates of about eighty to ninety percent for height, and about fifty percent for intelligence.
Where people slip
It cannot be applied to one person: fifty percent heritable never means half of your intelligence came from genes.
