Updating a Pack With a Change Log

Captions available

The idea

When an object changes, the method has AI update its pack from the old version plus a description of the change, and asks for a change log at the same time.

In practice

Step one: give the tool the current pack and a plain description of what changed, such as a new status or a revised rule. Step two: ask for the updated pack and a change-log section listing every edit. Step three: check each logged change against the source of the change. Step four: check the rest of the pack for unlogged edits. Step five: for high-risk objects, route the update through the change request process, then record the new version and date.

Where people slip

The method's phrase for the person doing this is editor-in-chief: AI can do much of the routine update work, but the person remains the editor. Step four matters most, because an unlogged edit is the quiet change the method forbids.
