The idea
Timnit Gebru and colleagues proposed datasheets for datasets, a structured set of questions the creators of a dataset answer, inspired by the datasheets that accompany electronic components.
In practice
A datasheet published alongside a dataset of customer reviews, answering who built it, from what, and for what.
Where people slip
A datasheet is answered by the dataset's creators; it reflects what they knew and chose to say.
