Evidence-Based Practice / Unit 6   EBP 0768 short lesson, about 20 seconds

Statistical Significance

Captions available

The idea

A statistically significant result is one unlikely to have been produced by chance alone.

In practice

A difference between two groups reported as unlikely to be a chance finding.

Where people slip

Statistical significance is a statement about chance. It says nothing about the size of the difference and nothing about whether that size matters to a patient.
