Evidence-Based Practice / Unit 5   EBP 0610 short lesson, about 20 seconds

Context Turns Appraisal Into a Tool

Captions available

The idea

What the clinician brings provides the context for appraising and translating evidence. Without a context for translation, critical appraisal becomes a task to be completed rather than a tool to be used.

In practice

A completed appraisal filed, and an appraisal that changed a decision.

Where people slip

This is the sharpest sentence in the chapter. Appraisal done without context is still work, and produces nothing.
