Evidence-Based Practice / Unit 5   EBP 0615 short lesson, about 20 seconds

Self-Efficacy

Captions available

The idea

Self-efficacy is the confidence with which patients and families physically carry out the plan of care, and it is the central tenet of the ownership-of-health model this course cites.

In practice

A patient who believes they can manage an inhaler technique, and does.

Where people slip

Self-efficacy is confidence in doing, not understanding. A patient can understand a plan and not believe they can perform it.
