Random Sampling

The idea
Random sampling draws participants so every member of a population has a known chance of selection, which is what lets a result generalise back to it.
In practice
Selecting one hundred patients from a list of every eligible patient, by chance rather than by convenience.
Where people slip
Random sampling and random assignment are different things. Sampling decides who is studied; assignment decides who gets which arm.
