Evidence-Based Practice / Unit 22   EBP 3169 short lesson, about 20 seconds

Case-Control, Looking Back

Captions available

The idea

A case-control study compares people who have a condition with people who do not, to find predictor variables associated with having it. It is usually retrospective.

In practice

People with a condition and controls, compared on prior exposures.

Where people slip

Looking back means the exposure data already exist and were not collected for this purpose. Unit 06's recall bias warning applies to the designer too.
