What a Clinical Practice Guideline Is
Captions available
The idea
A clinical practice guideline is a set of systematically developed statements intended to optimise patient care and help practitioners and patients decide on appropriate care for specific clinical circumstances.
In practice
A document telling a clinician what the evidence supports doing in a defined situation.
Where people slip
A guideline advises on circumstances, not on a person. Applying it still requires the three components from Unit 05.
