Paradise Lost: Satan
Captions available
The idea
Satan, fallen from Heaven, wakes in Hell and rallies his angels with defiant speeches: "The mind is its own place, and in itself / Can make a Heaven of Hell, a Hell of Heaven," and "Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven." Then he flies to Eden.
In practice
Defiance in Hell, then Eden.
Where people slip
Satan's eloquence is the poem's danger.
