Romeo and Juliet
Captions available
The idea
Romeo and Juliet, young lovers from feuding families of Verona, marry in secret and die through a chain of mistakes and haste. Shakespeare took the story from Arthur Brooke's verse version of fifteen sixty-two. Mercutio's dying curse is "A plague o' both your houses!"
In practice
Feud, secret marriage, double death.
Where people slip
Chance and haste, not one villain, drive the end.
