Captions available
The idea
Modernist fiction broke narrative continuity, used stream of consciousness, a term William James coined in eighteen ninety, and interior monologue, which presents thoughts directly. It questioned coherent character and relied on epiphany, fragmentation and shifting points of view.
In practice
Stream, monologue, fragment, epiphany.
Where people slip
Stream of consciousness is the technique.
