Matching Second-Generation Works
The idea
Sort the second generation by author and form. Byron wrote Childe Harold's Pilgrimage, in Spenserian stanzas, Don Juan, in ottava rima, Manfred, a closet drama, and "She Walks in Beauty." Shelley wrote "Ozymandias," "Ode to the West Wind," "To a Skylark," "England in 1819," Prometheus Unbound, Adonais and A Defence of Poetry. Keats wrote "On First Looking into Chapman's Homer," "When I Have Fears," "La Belle Dame sans Merci," The Eve of St. Agnes, the odes and the letter on Negative Capability. Hemans wrote "Casabianca." In prose, Mary Shelley wrote Frankenstein; Austen Pride and Prejudice, Emma, Persuasion and Northanger Abbey; Scott Waverley; De Quincey the Confessions; Lamb the Essays of Elia; Hazlitt The Spirit of the Age. Then use clues: an elegy for Keats is Shelley's, a frame of letters from the Arctic is Frankenstein, a heroine misreading a rich neighbour is Austen.
In practice
Byron, Shelley, Keats, and the prose writers.
Where people slip
Adonais is Shelley's elegy for Keats, not a poem by Keats. Do not confuse subject and author.
