"To Autumn"
Captions available
The idea
"To Autumn," composed on the nineteenth of September eighteen nineteen after a walk near Winchester, opens, "Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness." Its three eleven-line stanzas move from ripening to harvest to the last days of autumn, accepting the season without reaching for escape.
In practice
Ripeness, harvest, the year's end.
Where people slip
The ode accepts transience calmly.
