How Common Is Autism?

Captions available

The idea

The CDC's latest monitoring report found autism in about one in 31 eight-year-olds in 2022, across 16 sites, and about 3.4 times as common in boys as in girls.

In practice

In a school of 310 eight-year-olds, that rate would mean about ten autistic children.
