Fading to Natural Reinforcers
Captions available
The idea
Behavioral programs aim to fade artificial reinforcers so that behavior comes under the control of natural reinforcers, the rewards the activity itself provides.
In practice
A student who once practiced piano for points now practices because playing well is satisfying.
Where people slip
Skinner treated these natural consequences as the goal, the point at which extra rewards are no longer needed.
