Apostrophes for Possession
Captions available
The idea
An apostrophe has two jobs: it shows possession, and it forms contractions.
In practice
For a singular noun or an indefinite pronoun, add apostrophe s: "my sister's coworker," "everyone's favorite," "the company's policy."
Where people slip
Apostrophes never form plurals and never appear in possessive pronouns such as its, yours or whose.
