College Composition / Unit 6   CMP 0133 short lesson, about 20 seconds

Parallelism in Lists

Captions available

The idea

Every item in a list should take the same grammatical form.

In practice

"Exercises include crunches, leg lifts, and when you do push-ups" breaks the pattern; "crunches, leg lifts and push-ups" keeps three nouns.

Where people slip

Check the last item in a list; it is the one that most often changes form.
