The Difference of Squares

This video presents the same text shown beside it, spoken and on screen. It adds nothing the text does not say.

State

Multiplying conjugate binomials collapses to a difference of squares: (a + b)(a − b) = a² − b², with no middle term.

Show

(x + 6)(x − 6): the outer and inner products, −6x and 6x, cancel, leaving x² − 36.

Watch for

The pattern needs opposite signs and matching terms.

Builds on

  • Nothing — this is a starting point.

Unlocks

  • Nothing yet depends on this.
