A polynomial is a sum of terms, each a coefficient times a variable raised to a nonnegative integer power.

3x² + 5x − 2 is a polynomial: three terms, powers 2, 1, and 0, every exponent a whole count of factors.
Watch for
A negative or fractional power on the variable disqualifies the term.
