The Addition Method

This video presents the same text shown beside it, spoken and on screen. It adds nothing the text does not say.

State

The addition method adds the equations, scaled if needed, so one variable's terms cancel as opposites — leaving one equation in one unknown.

Show

2x + 3y = 12 stacked on 4x − 3y = 6: the y-terms are already opposites, and adding gives 6x = 18.

Builds on

  • Nothing — this is a starting point.

Unlocks

  • Nothing yet depends on this.
