The Average Rate of Change

This video presents the same text shown beside it, spoken and on screen. It adds nothing the text does not say.

State

The average rate of change of a function between two inputs is the change in output over the change in input — slope on a function.

Show

A trip's distance reads 30 miles at hour 1 and 150 at hour 3: average rate (150 − 30)/(3 − 1) = 60 miles per hour.

Builds on

  • Nothing — this is a starting point.

Unlocks

  • Nothing yet depends on this.
